Despite increasing student enrollment and significant unprocessed collections, the number of librarians at this campus dropped thirty-five percent between 1989 and 2001. The national public university average was almost zero percent reduction at this time. Early retirements have further reduced ranks. Although many positions have been replaced, overall numbers remain well below optimal. LAUC-B formally opposes any administrative reduction in the number of librarian positions. If a position held by a librarian with career status must be eliminated, LAUC-B requests that the librarian be offered a permanent position in the Librarian Series elsewhere on campus.
