LAUC-B Executive Committee

October 10, 2018, 10:00 – 12:00

Present:

ExComm:  Randal Brandt, Marlene Harmon (Recorder), Brian Quigley, Jane Rosario (Chair), Kortney Rupp, Kiyoko Shiosaki.

I. Announcements (J. Rosario)

a. Joint Conference of Librarians of Color, September 26-30 (K. Shiosaki). 

K. Shiosaki reported positively on the Joint Conference attended by a broad range of librarians.  Slide shows and handouts for many programs are available on the conference website (https://www.eventscribe.com/2018/JCLC/).

b. Deirdre Mulligan, Professor, School of Information and Co-Director, Berkeley Center for Law & Technology, will speak at the Fall LAUC-B Assembly.

The date of the Fall Assembly has yet to be determined.

c. J. Nelson, Chair of the Distinguished Librarian Award Committee, reported that preparations for the upcoming award ceremony, to be held on Tuesday, December 11 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the Morrison Library, are right on schedule.  Library Communications will write a piece about the ceremony including interviews with the recipients.

II. Reports

a. Treasurer (R. Brandt)

Current balance is $34,630.02.

No budget yet for 2018, should be receiving it soon.

b. Monthly UL meeting (J. Rosario) (no report)

Next UL meeting will be in November.

c. LIBR meeting (J. Nelson)

J. Nelson will be attending LIBR meetings in the absence of a LAUC-B Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect, until a new Vice-Chair/Chair Elect is found.

Discussed:

  • Academic freedom for librarians
  • ACRL Rankings for UC Library.  J. Mackie-Mason was asked how data was collected and how rankings are determined.  
  • ITHAKA Faculty Survey has been received by faculty.

d. LAUC Statewide conference call (J. Rosario) (no report)

III. New Business

a. Approval of members of the Social Justice Event Planning Group (J. Rosario)

ExComm approved Angela Arnold, Jean Dickinson, Natalia Estrada, Corliss Lee, Michele Morgan, and Elissa Thomas to service on the Social Justice Event Planning Group.

b. Formal Charge from LAUC Statewide regarding barriers to LAUC participation is pending. 

Roger Smith, LAUC Statewide President is asking all campus LAUC associations to arrange for a venue or forum in which members can discuss barriers to participation in LAUC.   ExComm discussed the possibility of addressing this charge as part of the business meeting at the Fall Assembly, during the time committee reports are usually read. Committee reports will be available on the LAUC-B website.

c. CLOSED SESSION:  Annual CAPA report (J. Silva)

IV. Continuing Business

a. CLOSED SESSION:  Discussion of LAUC-B Working Group on Academic Reviews Report with representatives from CAPA and the Nominating and Elections Committee. (J. Silva, J. Eason, C. Tarr, M. Erviti)
