The Task Force on Library Internships will coordinate, facilitate and promote library internships within the UC Berkeley libraries. It will advise the libraries on policies and procedures related to successful internships. The task force will assume the following responsibilities:

  • Solicit opinion from throughout the Library on the draft Guidelines for Working with Students Engaged in Internships and Field Experiences and Checklist for Library Internships ( LAUC-B Task Force on the Library-SIMS Relationship Final Report, Appendix B and Appendix C [pdf]).
  • Revise the guidelines and checklist based on this feedback and present the revisions to the Executive Committee for approval.
  • Investigate, explore and identify opportunities for internships within the libraries.
  • Assist librarians and library staff with identifying and developing internship opportunities.
  • Advise librarians and library staff on strategies for conducting successful internships, promoting the use of the guidelines and checklist.
  • Facilitate communication with SIMS regarding internship opportunities.
  • Promote library internships beyond the campus.
  • Maintain records about internship experiences to help analyze and improve library internships.

Duration

The Task Force will run for two years (January 2006 to December 2007), and will make a recommendation at the end of its term as to whether it should be continued as a standing committee.
