Candidates for LAUC-B Offices

for Chair

José Adrián Barragán-Álvarez

I'm the curator for Latin Americana at The Bancroft Library and I am honored to run for LAUC-B Chair. Last year, after the departure of the incoming chair, I stepped up to serve as Vice-Chair (pro-tem). Prior to that, I had served LAUC-B in different roles, including Library Representative, Chair of the Diversity Committee for LAUC-B and as a representative for the same committee statewide, and a conference committee. I believe LAUC-B plays an important role in our work as professional librarians at a premier research university through governance and development. I look forward to continue serving all of us as we prepare for the coming challenges.

for Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect

Christina Velazquez Fidler

I am honored to be a nominee for the position of LAUC-B Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect. I am the digital archivist at the Bancroft Library, and I have been a member of LAUC-B since 2012 with service in the Professional Development and Research Committee, the Committee on Diversity, I established the Critical Librarianship Reading Group in 2020, member of the LAUC-B 2021 Conference Planning Committee  and most recently I served as a Library Representative. While working as the archivist at the UCB Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, an independent special collections library outside of the main library, I participated in The Affiliated Libraries and Archives Group (TALAG). This experience helped me better understand the impact and needs of our broader library campus community. I am hopeful that my diverse experiences across the campus library community will help me fulfill the role of Vice-Chair/Chair Elect. Thank you for your consideration.

for Secretary

Michael Sholinbeck

I am honored to run for Secretary of LAUC-B, and to be on a slate with a group of outstanding colleagues. I have been a LAUC-B member since 2002, and have served on numerous committees, including Research, Conference Planning, CAPA, and Diversity (where I served as Co-chair with the Chair of SDC). In addition, I have been active in pursuing mentor/mentee relationships with both librarians and professional staff in the library, as part of various LAUC-B sponsored programs. I look forward to serving LAUC-B again. If elected, I will strive to fulfill the duties of the position accurately and punctually, and will work toward building community in the Executive Committee and amongst our membership.

for Treasurer

Jackie Gosselar

I am honored to be a nominee for LAUC-B Treasurer. I am the Systems and Discovery Services Librarian in Library IT. In my current role, I am a Library Representative on LAUC-B, a member of the UC Berkeley Library Equity & Inclusion Committee, I lead the UC Berkeley Library Alma/Primo VE Coordination Team (APriCoT), and represent UC Berkeley as the vice chair of the UC-wide SILS Operations Team and as a member of the Discovery Operations Subteam. As a librarian in a division which serves all other aspects of the UC Berkeley Library, and as the service lead for Alma and Primo VE, I have the opportunity to build relationships with staff across the Library, share knowledge, and collaborate to build a better system together. I endeavor to bring this commitment to belonging and service to LAUC-B.

for Library Representative

Jennifer Brown

I’m so pleased to run for the position of LAUC-B Library Representative. As one of the Undergraduate Learning & Research Librarians in the Instruction Services Division, I support the library’s Research 101 program, the Moffitt Redesign team, and a number of projects involving critical race theory & critical pedagogies as it relates to supporting Black, Indigenous, & scholars + workers of color in LIS. Previously, I had the pleasure of chairing LITA’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and I've spent seven years serving as one of the Community Managers for We Here. I'd happily bring those experiences to the Library Representative role, and would do my best to advocate for staff needs. Thanks for your consideration.

Misha Coleman

I am honored to be considered for the position of Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee. As a new librarian, I value (and have benefited personally from) LAUC-B's work to provide professional support and collaboration across the libraries. Attending the LAUC statewide assembly this spring inspired me to get more involved in this vital community of library professionals at the earliest opportunity. Throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies I have been committed to fostering collaboration and building supportive communities, such as in the Information Commons at the University of Texas Austin. I look forward to carrying lessons learned from those experiences to contribute to the well-being of our library community here. I appreciate your consideration.

for Affiliated Library Representative-Elect / CALA Vice Chair

Cyrana Dowell

I am pleased to be nominated for the position of Affiliated Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee. I am the new Research Services Archivist for the Environmental Design Archives. From the time of my arrival in February, I have experienced a warm welcome from the librarian community at Berkeley. In this short time, I have benefitted from support offered by the librarian community and the LAUC-B mentorship program. I am excited to make connections across libraries, listen and learn about campus issues, and engage with my colleagues. I am honored to be considered for this opportunity to serve the community and to represent the interests of the Affiliated Libraries.
