Candidates for LAUC-B Offices

Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect

Susan McElrath

I am honored to be considered for the position of LAUC-B Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect. I joined the UC Berkeley Libraries in March of 2018 as Head of Public Services at the Bancroft Library. I have served as Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee (2019-20), LAUC-B representative to the Staff Development Committee (2018-20), and co-chair of the LAUC-B Committee on Research and Professional Development (2019-20). I have held a variety of leadership positions in archival organizations at the regional and national levels. I welcome the opportunity to continue working with colleagues across the libraries and to be more involved in professional and governance matters. Thank you for your consideration.

Secretary

Sherry Lochhaas

I am pleased to be considered for the position of Secretary for the LAUC-B Executive Committee. I have been the Electronic Resources Librarian in the Acquisitions department since January 2019, building on several previous years with the Electronic Resources Unit, and serving as a librarian at multiple locations prior to that. As a new librarian at UC Berkeley I am excited to become involved with LAUC-B, and support the professionalism and interests of the librarian community at UC Berkeley. I look forward to contributing and making a positive impact through my participation with LAUC-B. Thank you for your consideration.

Representatives

Timothy Vollmer

I’m pleased and honored to be considered for the position of Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee. I’m the Scholarly Communication & Copyright Librarian within the Office of Scholarly Communication Services. Even though I’m a relatively new librarian at Berkeley (I started in August 2019), I’ve already been contributing to key library initiatives inside the university and out in the broader community. I’m Project Manager for the Building Legal Literacies for Text Data Mining Institute, a member of the Digital Lifecycle Program team that is drafting best ethical practices for the digitization and access of special collections, and chair of the Collection Services Council Open Access Investments Working Group. I’m also a part of the ALA’s newest Policy Corps cohort, and a member of the Library union (UC-AFT 1474) local organizing committee. I have experience contributing to and leading project work, and I’m looking forward to providing professional and community service by serving as LAUC-B Library Representative. Thank you for the consideration.

Anna Sackmann

I am honored to be considered for the position of Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee. During my time as a librarian at UC Berkeley, I have served on the LAUC-B and LAUC Statewide Professional Development and Research Committees, the LAUC 50th Statewide Assembly planning committee, and contributed to developing the LAUC Connect program. I value the collaboration opportunities and professional support LAUC-B provides librarians and have personally benefited from the impact of that support through presentation grants and the mentorship program. I believe my past and present involvement in LAUC and LAUC-B enable me to continue to serve the library community in a positive way. Thank you for your consideration.

Affiliated Library Representative / CALA Vice Chair

Kate Peck

Even though I have only been at UC Berkeley for a little over a year, I am very pleased to stand as a candidate for the position of Affiliated Library Representative to the Executive Committee of LAUC-B/CALA Vice Chair. When I came to the Berkeley Law Library last June I was thrilled to find a community of engaged and involved librarians, one which tries to encourage and value new arrivals as well as more senior members. The remarkable events of the past few months have made it more challenging to continue that sense of community and shown that there is still a great deal to be done to expand inclusion and representation, but I have confidence that the librarians of UC Berkeley are up to the challenge. It would be an honor to be part of the team that tries to make all campus librarians and library staff feel as valued and welcome as I have since my arrival.
