Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect, LAUC-B Executive Committee
Susan Edwards
I was honored to be asked by the nominating committee to run for the position of LAUC-B Vice-Chair/Chair Elect. This is a very challenging time for our profession, both here at UC Berkeley and in the larger world. Budget and staff shortages constrain us in public and technical services, collection development, instruction and outreach. At the same time, the pervasive "but isn't it all on Google?" can make us defensive about our role as librarians and the future of libraries. LAUC-B promotes the "full use of UC librarians' professional abilities" and I believe that will be necessary to address the problems we face. As LAUC-B Vice Chair/Chair Elect, I would work to include all librarians in this process.
Since my return to Berkeley in January 2009, I have served as chair of the Social Sciences Council and as an active member of the Collections Budget Group, the Educational Initiatives Council, the Scholarly Communications Advisory Group, the campus-wide Textbook Affordability Implementation Task Force, and the system-wide UC bibliographer group for psychology. I am passionate about our profession and am grateful to work at this outstanding library and public university. I would welcome the opportunity to serve LAUC-B.

Jeffery Loo
In my short time at UC Berkeley, I have seen how influential LAUC can be in helping librarians be successful. I have personally received a LAUC research grant and have had the opportunity to contribute to job-shadowing activities through my membership on the LAUC-B Committee on Diversity. These activities gave me a better understanding of UC Berkeley and provided me opportunities to collaborate with librarians across campus.
I would like to serve in the role of Secretary to expand my contribution to LAUC-B in the coming year. I bring a background in project management, collaborative research, and professional development activities - and I hope these skills will allow me to have a positive impact on LAUC-B.
I joined the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Library in Fall 2009, serving additionally as the liaison to the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. I am active on a number of library committees including the Educational Initiatives Council, the Scholarly Communications Advisory Group, the UC/Springer Journals Open Access Pilot Task Force, and the Doe Library Centennial Celebration Committee. Prior to this position, I had varied experiences in public, academic, and government libraries.
Dean Rowan
It is my pleasure and privilege to run for the position of Secretary of LAUC-B. I joined the Berkeley Law (Boalt Hall) Library as a Reference Librarian in 2004, shortly after graduating from the law school. I have since been promoted to the head of the Reference division. During my nearly seven years at Berkeley, I have enjoyed working with and contributing to LAUC-B, including service on the Professional Development committee and an ad hoc committee appointed to mount the 2007 conference, /Academic Library 2.0/. Additionally, I have served as Parliamentarian on the statewide LAUC Executive Board since 2005. Recently, I filled a position vacated mid-term on LAUC's Research and Professional Development Committee. I am committed to promoting (evangelizing?) the Townsend Library Fellowship presented each year by the Townsend Center for the Humanities. In terms of extramural experience, I am presently the Secretary on the Board of Trustees for the Playwrights Foundation, an influential non-profit organization in San Francisco devoted to developing the work of playwrights in the Bay Area and across the country. Prior to coming to law school, I was a public librarian for well over a decade in Southern California.
Treasurer, LAUC-B Executive Committee
Adnan Malik
This is my sixth year as the South Asia librarian at UC Berkeley. Before coming to Berkeley I was the curator of the South Asia collection at Cornell University for two years. My interest in working in the field of area studies librarianship started at the University of Chicago where I got my MA in sociology. I worked for several years at the South Asia collection there, first as a student worker and then as an assistant cataloger. As such, I have had the good fortune of working for three major South Asia collections in the country.
Like at Cornell, here at UC Berkeley too, collection development is a major component of my duties as the South Asia librarian. That means I have several years experience of managing a large budget with sometimes complex international transactions. As I serve the needs of the campus's academic community, my duties involve apportioning my budget as equitably as possible among competing demands that involve the many different languages and countries that make up South Asia. I also served as treasurer/secretary of CONSALD, the Committee on South Asian Libraries and Databases from 2005 -2007.
As such, I believe I bring the necessary skills to the position of Treasurer of LAUC-B if elected. I look forward, if given the opportunity, to share my abilities with colleagues on the Executive Committee for the benefit of the organization.
Susan Xue
I am honored to be given the opportunity to run for the position of Treasurer of LAUC-B. I have been a librarian at UC Berkeley since July 2005.
By serving on the LAUC-B Committee on Diversity (2008-2009), I have seen how LAUC-B has contributed to the University's mission and been a driving force for enhancing librarians' role on campus. During my committee appointment, I demonstrated an ability to execute my responsibilities successfully and efficiently. I would be very happy to continue my service to the LAUC-B community, and if elected Treasurer, I would bring the same dedication and my experience of serving on other professional national committees to fulfilling my responsibilities in that role.
Library Representative, LAUC-B Executive Committee
Dana Jemison
As the LAUC-B Library Representative, I hope to bring a fresh and unique perspective to the Executive Committee. During my four years at UC Berkeley, I have worked in various Library paraprofessional and professional appointments in both branch and central libraries. Currently, I am the Contracts and Licensing Librarian for the University, and also provide support for the Library Systems Office, primarily for large MARC data projects. I currently serve on the LAUC-B Professional Development Committee, and hope to be able to contribute to additional LAUC endeavors in future.
Jim Ronningen
Jim Ronningen is an Associate Librarian working in the Doe & Moffitt Libraries' Research and Collections unit. He is a liaison to the departments of Sociology and Demography, the program in Peace & Conflict Studies and the Graduate School of Journalism. He has formerly served on the LAUC Professional Development committee.
John Shepard
Head of the Jean Gray Hargrove Music Library since 6 October 2008. He was Music & Performing Arts Librarian at Rutgers University from August 2004 to September 2008. Prior to that, he was on the staff of the Music Division of the Research Libraries of the New York Public Library from March 1972 to August 2004: from January 1981 as a librarian, and from June 1986 as the curator of rare books and manuscripts.
Shepard has a Bachelor of Music degree (Theory and Composition) from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (1971), an M.S. in Library Service from Columbia University (1981), and he pursued graduate studies in musicology at New York University (1984-89). He has served on the Boards of Directors of the Music Library Association (MLA; 1994-96) and of the U.S. Branch of the International Association of Music Libraries (IAML; 1990-93 and 2008-11), and he was Chair of IAML's Archives and Music Documentation Centres branch (2006-08).
Feature articles by Shepard have been published in the MLA's journal Notes (1984, 2000, and 2006), along with numerous reviews of books and scores (1979-2000). He wrote numerous articles - short and long - for The New Grove Dictionary of American Music (1986) and The New Grove Dictionary of Opera (1992). His article on a case study of the pedagogy of dance archives is forthcoming in IAML's journal Fontes artis musicae (June 2011).
Kai Stoeckenius
I have served in my current position at Berkeley as a cataloger of germanica in the Monograph Original Cataloging Unit of the Catalog Dept. since 2002. My career in librarianship at Berkeley actually goes back over three decades beginning with my days as a graduate student in the former School of Library and Information Studies, working in the Library's Baker Service. I also served the Library as a catalog librarian in grant-funded positions in the early nineties. These stints at Berkeley were interrupted by years in the Technical Services Department of the Graduate Theological Union library, and, more recently, as head of the Catalog Dept. at Boise State University.
Since returning to Berkeley I have served on the LAUC-B Committees on Nominations and Elections, Professional Development, and am currently Chair of the Committee on Research.
I welcome the opportunity to be a candidate for the position of Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee.

Julie Lefevre
I am honored to be given the opportunity to run for the office of Affiliated Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee. I began my career at Berkeley in March 2009, and since then have been active in LAUC-B -- as manager of the LAUC-B website (2010- ), member of the LAUC-B Conference Planning Committee (2009), and webmaster for the Berkeley planning group of the LAUC Statewide Assembly (2009). I am excited at the chance to continue my service to the Berkeley library community through participating in the governance and operations of LAUC-B. If elected, I will work to effectively represent the interests of the Affiliated Libraries, and to support LAUC-B's mission of advocating for librarian concerns within the university. I look forward to working with my LAUC colleagues to foster professional collaboration and development, so that we can provide the best possible research experiences to users of all our campus libraries.
